Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center – Chattanooga Museums Series 6
This was our last stop on the Museum Hop. The Coolidge Medal Museum is located inside Northgate Mall. Go to the entrance on the West side nearest to Sears, and the Museum is the first door to the left after you enter.
This museum is quite small right now, but is planning to move to a much larger space near the Aquarium downtown. When I asked if they had enough memorabilia to fill the new space, I was told that they have that much and quite a bit more that is stored and ready to go when they get the funds to move.
The Charles H. Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center honors those who have made exceptional sacrifices for their country and have been awarded the coveted Medal of Honor. The first medal was presented by Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Since then, 3500 medals have been awarded to the brave and selfless men and women defending the United States.
Even though the space is small, the curators have managed to exhibit some of the most famous and well-known wars, such as the Civil war, WWI, WWII, the Vietnam war, and the Iraq-Afghanistan war.
If you enjoy learning about the history of the United States, and other countries in the world, spend some time at the Coolidge Medal of Honor Museum. The staff is very knowledgeable, and you are sure to learn many unknown or obscure facts about the heroes that fought in these many wars.
