Great Lakes Trip – Day 1 – Michigan
Our 2 week trip to Michigan
You didn’t ask, but, nevertheless, here goes.
We are headed to Michigan. We want to see what’s there. We’ve never been there. So naturally, we must explore. In the next 14 posts, you’ll experience a little of what we saw and felt. I hope you enjoy it as much, or 50% as much, as we did.
The cast: My wife and I
The transportation: Our beautiful Silver Streak.
First stop, of course, is our favorite restaurant, the Cracker Barrel where we ate our favorite dish – the Country House Salad. After lunch a peek at their zany art,
Finally, we arrive in Louisville, the home of the Louisville Slugger. The LS is a major attraction in Louisville. The streets were littered with tourists buying bats, and I don’t think they were going to use them for playing baseball. These things are lethal.
120 feet tall and 680,000 lbs.
And some incredible Lego exhibits about the history of baseball in Louisville and their stadium. This exhibit is temporary so check to see if it is still showing. The viewing is free.
We viewed the huge and very muddy Ohio River. And saw the statue of a pioneer that helped Louisville get on the map, as well as make the river navigable – General George Rogers Clark.
There were also some beautiful buildings on Main Street. One of the most ostentatious is the Humana Building. Your hard earned dollars at work.
Tomorrow we are off on Day 2 of our journey. I’ll go see the place of my birth near Chicago and tell you about a famous historical restaurant on Route 66 called Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket. Lunch tomorrow – oh yeah!
Till then, be well, and get ready for another crazy day on the road with Randall.
