On Mac Geek Gab, Adam Christianson said you can change the default of an mp3 or mp4 file from opening with Apple Music to Quicktime. Avoiding adding the mp3 or mp4 to your Apple library every time you sample a song or movie. #learned

How to do this

Go to an .mp3 or .mp4 file in Finder and press command i (or go to File>Get Info). Go down in the information sidebar and change the default app from Apple Music to Quicktime. Click the “Change All” button below that. Do that for mp3 and mp4 files. Now they open in Quicktime. (The default app for .mp4 may be something other than Apple Music. That’s okay. If you don’t want .mp4 to open in that default app, then change to Quicktime. Quicktime is part of the Apple operating system so no need to download or pay for a special app.

BTW, this works for any file, be it .pdf, .jpg, .txt, etc.

I just changed both within 2 minutes. And it works perfectly. Easy to change back too.
