New Orleans Part 4 – Lula Restaurant Distillery

Approximate reading time 1 minute

Lula caught my wife’s eye during the research she did planning this trip to New Orleans. It is in the 4th Ward—not too far to walk, yet one of the few times we got our car from the valet at the hotel, and drove. The 4th Ward of New Orleans is a historic voting district that includes parts of the French Quarter and some mid-city areas.

We parked the car across the street from the restaurant, on Terpsichore Street and walked into the spacious eatery.

Lula is touted as a sports bar, a distillery, and a restaurant, all in one. It was game day in New Orleans and we expected the place to be packed. It was anything but. The main ones watching the game were servers and bartenders with a lot of time on their hands.

A young server with dreadlocks introduced himself as Roderick, and seated us at a table near the middle of the restaurant.

My wife ordered the shrimp and grits which came with several crawfish on the platter, shrimp, and plenty of grits. I order the Pork Osso Buco – with a very generous portion of pork that wasn’t that flavorful. The bed of grits and the fried egg with the entree were good though. And I almost finished the pork. It was way too much meat.

Not too much else to say about this restaurant. It was a very nice space, well designed, with a patio on the front, and tasteful decor inside.
