Today, after 2 rounds of mini golf, we had worked up a quite an appetite. Oceana Grill was our chosen restaurant for today’s lunch. It is a very old restaurant, having opened in 1973 – a special year to us.
We walked from the hotel to the restaurant, going most of the way from Julia Street on Magazine Street which becomes Decatur Street, then took a left on Conti Street. The Oceana Grill’s street was about a ¼ mile away on Conti.

When we arrived there was a line out on the sidewalk. It looked like it would be a long wait. Yet within 10 minutes we were seated in the main dining area. There are a lot of different spaces here. There is even a private balcony, which can be rented during Mardi Gras if you want to see the lively antics of Mardi Gras revelers as you enjoy Cajun food and party drinks.

Our server was a middle aged woman with a slight accent. True to form I asked where she was from. Her name is Sanique, and she is from Jamaica. A really nice lady, and very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.
My wife ordered the Fried Shrimp platter, and I took Sanique’s recommendation – the somewhat pricey Red Fish Entree Special. I chose the mustard greens as my side.

Both meals were very good and very filling. The menu here is extensive, touting its Creole and Cajun cuisine. If you want to order food from your hotel or lodging, they deliver. They also cater all kinds of events, from classic party trays to full service catering packages.
If you go to New Orleans, I highly recommend a meal or two here. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast would be a memorable occasion; they offer the famous New Orleans style Bananas Foster French toast, omelettes, and all kinds of seafood and egg dishes.
